Genova Industrie Navali Group, through its wholly owned subsidiary GIN Maritime Operations, has completed the acquisition of the submersible barge Arcalupa, taking a significant step towards strengthening and expanding its activities in the shipbuilding and industrial plant engineering sectors, further consolidating its position among the market leaders.

Arcalupa, whose technical and commercial management will be entrusted to the ship management company K-Ships, represents an innovation in the field of maritime operations. It is equipped with dual functionality, allowing it to operate both as a transport vessel and as a platform for launching and hauling megastructures from port docks and shipyard areas with water surfaces. Certified in ABS + A1 class for the transportation of exceptional loads, Arcalupa has a load capacity of 14,000 tons and a deck payload capacity of 30 tons per square meter.

Built in 2020 at the Cimolai facilities, Arcalupa is a semi-submersible barge that boasts exceptional dimensions, about 60% more than standard barges, with a weight of 3,800 tons, reaching 4,200 tons with flotation towers, 127.2 meters in length, 31.5 meters in width, and 6.5 meters in height; features that allow it to stand out for its flexibility and multifunctionality.

Thanks to the installation of specific flotation towers, it is also possible to submerge the deck up to 6.5 meters with a maximum draft of 13 meters, transforming it into a floating dock for launching artifacts up to 9,800 tons, a unique feature that greatly extends its field of application.

"The acquisition of Arcalupa represents not only the introduction of a strategic asset to the portfolio of the Genova Industrie Navali Group,” says Aldo Negri, President of GIN Maritime Operations, “but also a significant step forward in our development vision, allowing the Group to pave new paths in the field of maritime-industrial operations and engineering services for logistics."
