T. Mariotti celebrates the launch of the vessel Olterra. It is the first unit of the SDO-SuRS (Special and Diving Operations – Submarine Rescue Ship) programme, designed for the Italian Navy.
The event, which took place at the Genoa shipyard, represented a crucial milestone in the ship's construction and the yard's history, as it's the first military project completed by T. Mariotti S.p.A. - Shipyard. The new unit is named “Olterra” and carries the motto “Per Atra Aequora Fulgor” ("Through Dark Seas, a Gleam"). This alludes to the light that guides innovation even in the most unexplored depths of the sea.
The Olterra is a groundbreaking project for the underwater domain—the technologies and operational capabilities linked to submarine and underwater activities that are now a strategic frontier for security and defence.
A result of the collaboration between T. Mariotti and a leading national industrial ecosystem, the vessel is designed for rescuing stricken submarines, supporting special underwater operations, and protecting critical submarine infrastructure in the Mediterranean and beyond.
