The operations of the “Green Pearl” have been officially inaugurated in Genoa. This LNG (liquefied natural gas) transport and supply unit was commissioned from the San Giorgio del Porto S.p.A. shipyard on behalf of G&H Shipping Srl - a joint venture between Gas and Heat S.p.A. and San Giorgio del Porto S.p.A. - based on a long-term charter agreement signed with Axpo Group. In recent months, Sofipa Spa, the holding company of the Ottavio Novella shipping group, has joined the corporate structure.
The dual-fuel, electrically propelled unit has a capacity of 7,500 m³ of LNG and is designed to operate in both “ship-to-ship” (vessel bunkering) and “ship-to-truck” (refuelling gas tankers) modes, helping to improve the efficiency and speed of small-scale energy logistics in the Mediterranean.
Green Pearl represents an advanced model of innovation for maritime and land-based energy logistics, supporting decarbonisation processes in the maritime and road transport sectors. It reinforces Italy’s role as a strategic hub for natural gas distribution in the Mediterranean and makes a tangible contribution to strengthening the country’s energy security.
